#ICYMI: Our Micron executives joined President Biden and other leaders this week in Syracuse, New York to celebrate Micron’s plans to invest approximately $50 billion in gross capex for U.S. domestic leading-edge memory manufacturing through 2030, supported by the newly announced $6.1 billion in funding under the CHIPS and Science Act. These grants and additional state and local incentives will support the construction of one leading-edge memory manufacturing fab to be co-located with the company’s existing leading-edge R&D facility in Boise, Idaho and the construction of two leading-edge memory fabs in Clay, New York. https://bit.ly/4d8g5O1

Honoring the legacy of Robert H. Dennard, whose pioneering work revolutionized the semiconductor industry. As the inventor of Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM), Dennard’s innovation transformed computer memory, enabling the technology that powers our modern world. His invention is foundational in devices from smartphones to supercomputers.   Dennard’s scaling theory, known as Dennard Scaling, predicted that as transistors become smaller, their performance per watt improved exponentially. This principle has driven the advancement of semiconductor technology for decades.   At Micron, Dennard’s impact is deeply felt. His work laid the groundwork for our advancements in DRAM and memory technologies, driving innovation across the industry. Thank you, Robert Dennard, for your lasting contributions to memory technology and for inspiring us to push the boundaries of what’s possible to enrich life for all.

Paying our respects to Robert Dennard, a giant in semiconductor development and the father of the entire memory industry. His invention, DRAM, allowed an electronic bit to be stored by a single transistor and capacitor, laying the foundation for increasingly higher speed, higher capacity and lower cost data access. DRAM made it possible to go from giant room-sized and slow computers to the tremendously powerful mobile devices we have today.    Despite the tremendous advances made since the 1960s, I believe DRAM's greatest potential still lies ahead of us. AI systems present tremendous opportunity to enrich life, but they require access to mind-boggling amounts of data to do so -- and DRAM is the key to ever faster and more power-efficient data access.    Rest in peace, Mr. Dennard. We are all indebted to your genius. https://lnkd.in/gUUDeEry
