Educator development

We partner with many organizations to provide teachers with opportunities for STEM training and professional development. We want educators to be able to inspire their students to pursue an education in STEM by using hands-on, real-world applications and techniques that augment our K-12 programs in the classroom.

We also seek to increase diversity and equity in the STEM teacher workforce. The Micron Foundation and National Science Foundation (NSF) recently announced a $10 million partnership through which Micron Foundation will invest $5 million over the next five years to accelerate the preparation, training and retention of new and existing STEM teachers and educators. These include people of color, women, veterans and those in rural communities.

Micron is working with the NSF to identify programs, including the NSF’s Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program, to help increase the number of STEM K-12 teachers who are both interested and prepared to teach individuals of all races, ethnicities and backgrounds across the nation — including some of the most distressed and under-resourced K-12 contexts.

Priority of funds will be used to train new skilled and qualified STEM educators, develop facilitated networks and communities of practices for new and experienced STEM educators, teacher mentors and teacher leaders; provide necessary classroom resources to cultivate innovation, investigation and hands-on and virtual experimentation; and to build the capacity of local, state and regional ecosystems to support STEM and workforce education.
